| Help us raise money to buy toys for the UMC Hemotology/Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant toy boxes. A trip to the toy box after a long day of treatment is the least we can do for these kids. The more money we raise the more we can do. It starts with toys, but the possibilities are endless............ |
| We have tons of cool ideas to help cancer families. It doesn't have to end with toys. We can do so much more. We have started providing "essentials" bags for newly diagnosed families. "Essentials" bags might include travel size shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, hand sanitizer, shaving kit, hair clips, cozy socks or anything else we can think of. When your child has been diagnosed with cancer the last thing you have time to do is worry about the small stuff, like toiletries or comfort items. In most cases you don't know how long you will be in the hospital. Benny's first hospitalization was about two weeks long, but some kids first stay is months long. Plus you are never gone for long. Benny was home for two days before he was readmitted for Neutrapenia. Another thing we would like to start is a box for parents to pick from. It would have small gift cards for local restaurants and stores because it is hard for parents to be stuck in clinic all day too. A nice bonus for the end of a long day to maybe bring a smile to their face and save them a few bucks too. Being a cancer parent is expensive. You drive a lot, you eat take out, and cafeteria food constantly on top of everything else it adds up. Other things we would like to help with include: Gas cards Lap top computers Cafeteria food passes Monetary assistance Portable game systems As I have said the possibilities are endless.
